Perrywood Spitfires 3 v 2 West Byfleet
Epsom & Ewell Under 11
A very lack lustre 1st half with the Spitfires only creating one chance with Covey hitting the bar, the 2nd half was very different as the manager switched a few of the boys positions which paid dividends as the game came alive. Geli crossed the ball, the keeper came out, punched it away which went straight to Mackay who slotted it home. Another cross from Geli found Covey who was surrounded by three defenders, he scrambled through and managed to pull the trigger to score. It was again another Geli cross who found Denyer un marked at the back post who headed home for Perrywoods 3rd. Perrywood fell asleep and Byfleet punished them with a well worked goal, stunned by the goal Perrywood did not have time to respond as Byfleet came back with another attack and scored. The perrywood boys woke up and started to play, Treacher and Walsh put a few good passes together and Strong who had worked tirelessly all the match held the defence together to hold out for the win, Strong was awarded man of the match.
Epsom 2 v 3 Perrywood
Epsom & Ewell under 11 League cup
Manager of the Perrywood Spitfires Darren Mackay switched a few players in to different positions for this important cup game, this proved to be very successful as the team won the game.
The Spitfires started brightly with Denyer shot hitting the post and on the rebound Charlie Covey slotting home the 1st goal, from the midfield Ryan Walsh made some good runs, Covey was in the thick of the action with a superb cross to Strong whose shot just went wide. Covey was running riot with Epsom defence as again another thundering shot just went wide, a goal mouth scramble found Covey again in the Epsom box but this time he made sure the ball went in the back of the net. Some neat work from Walsh and Robertson forced a corner which was well struck by Geli who found Denyer who shot was inches over the bar. Epsom pulled a goal back just before half time.
The 2nd half continued with pace, Walsh broke through and just put one wide, Covey ran the length of the pitch with the ball with only the goal keeper to beat, the shot beat the keeper hitting the side post with the ball running along the goal line with the keeper denying him his hat trick. Epsom were not giving up and managed to beat the solid defence of Mackay, Treacher, Bastin and Griffin-Weaving and scored a 2nd past the Spitfires keeper Sinden. The Spitfires were not content with a draw and pushed on with good work from Bradley and Dale, Epsom broke on the counter but Sinden pulled a fantastic save. With minutes left a well stuck corner from Covey found Strong who found the Epsom net, the last few minutes were frantic but the Spitfires hung on and deserved to win, man of the match was Charlie Covey. The team was Covey, Mackay, Treacher, Denyer, Bastin, Sinden, Bradley, Allen, Georgiardis, Walsh, Griffen-Weaving, Strong, Robertson, Dale.
