MATCH REPORTS

Perrywood Tornados 1 v 3 Teddington

Sunday 16th November

Perrywood Tornado’s fell at the first hurdle in this U14 League Cup first round tie against fellow Divison 2 team, Teddington.

The Tornado’s started well and dominated possession in the first half.  Joe Gibson was back in the starting line up after injury and was pulling the strings in midfield along with Burberry and Covey. Shanka Suntoo’s pace was causing problems down the left with Boorman and Strong looking lively upfront

Totally against the run of play, Teddington broke and following some poor defending by Perrywood, Teddington took the lead.

The second half continued much the same way and finally after an exquisite through ball from Boorman, Strong slotted the ball passed the Teddington keeper for his fifth goal of the season.

The game was held up for a long period following a bad injury to a Teddington player and Teddington started the better following the hold up.

A ball through the middle found the Teddington forward who was able to lob the advancing Fahey in the Perrywood goal.

With minutes left, Perrywood threw on another striker looking for the equaliser but this only resulted in Teddington scoring a third and making the game safe.

All in all, with the exception of some poor defending on occasions, the Tornados played some good football and were unfortunate to lose.

TORNADOS: Fahey, Delton-Wright, Cusselle, Betchley, Reid, Suntoo, Gibson, Burberry, Covey, Strong, Boorman, Waddington, Larkin, Scarsbrook, Brown

Ashford Town 3 v 2 Perrywood Tornados
Sunday 9th November

Perrywood Tornados under 14’s travelled to Ashford Town looking to maintain their 100% start to their Surrey Primary League Division 2 season but came away empty handed despite taking a two goal lead.

Perrywood dominated the first half kicking with the wind and Paul Strong was causing the Ashford defence problems with his direct and surging runs.
Strong put a lob just wide, shot just passed the far post and hit the crossbar before the Tornados scored. Strong picked the ball up on the half way line, carried the ball down the right wing and put in an inviting cross for his strike partner, Boorman, to slide in at the far post.
Strong’s persistence paid off, following a mix up in the Ashford defence, Strong was able to round the keeper and tap into an empty net.
With the last kick of the first half, a speculative shot from an Ashford midfield player flew into the roof of the net giving Niall Fahey, making his debut in goal, no chance.
Perrywood never really came to grips with the wind in the second half and Ashford equalised within the first minute.
The inevitable happened, a corner from Perrywood’s right was firmly headed into the net by the Ashford forward making the score line 3-2 and resulted in Perrywood leaving Ashford empty handed! The plus side saw Kieran Brown making his first appearance since breaking a bone in his foot during pre-season.

Tornados: Fahey, Mitchell, Cusselle, Betchley, Reid, Waddington, Burberry, Delton-Wright, Covey, Boorman, Strong, Larkin, Brown, Scarsbrook, Suntoo.

PERRYWOOD TORNADOS 2 v 0 St Francis Sports
Sunday 19th October

Perrywood Tornados were well below par but following some clinical finishing from Paul Strong came away from this Surrey Primary League division 2 match against St Francis with all three points.

Both team’s defences were on top throughout the first half and neither team really managed to bother ethe goalkeepers as the half fizzled out goalless.

After the re-start, the Tornados upped their work rate, wanted the ball more and showed glimpses of their passing game. This was rewarded midway through the second half, a sweeping ball to the wing from Boorman found Burberry who delivered the perfect cross for Strong to flick into the net.

Perrywood continued to defend well with Reid, Betchley the pick of the bunch at the back. Waddington settled in well at right back after Mitchell had taken over in goal from Larkin and Suntoo showed strong positive running once introduced.

The Tornados were enjoying more of the ball and Reid played a right footed pass down the line to Strong who made a purposeful run that took him passed 3 defenders before slotting the ball in the far corner for his and Perrywood’s second goal of the game.

Davy Delton-Wright worked tirelessly in midfield and was awarded lad of the match. In the end, a good three points for a Perrywood team not firing on all cylinders.

Tornados: Larkin, Mitchell, Waddington, Cusselle, Betchley, Reid, Covey, Delton-Wright, Burberry, Boorman, Strong, Suntoo, Scarsbrook.

PERRYWOOD TORNADOS 3 v 2 MILFORD PUMAS
Sunday 28th September

Perrywood Tornados just came out on top against a spirited Milford Pumas in this Under 14 SPL division 2 clash.
The Tornados started positively but could not break down the Puma’s defence until a defence splitting ball played inside the fullback by Delton-Wright found Matt Covey who struck a rising shot passed the Milford keeper and into the roof of the net.

The second half started with the Tornados not getting everything their own way and Milford equalised with a well worked move and a low drive into the Perrywood net. The game flowed from end to end and Perrywood took the lead with a downward header from Larkin following a well flighted corner from Burberry.

Following a bad kick out from the Puma’s keeper Waddington added a third for the Tornados and seemingly put the game out of doubt.

Milford had other ideas and following a long drop kick from their keeper, their forward ran through and finished neatly.
Reid put in a good cross from the left and Boorman’s header was straight at the keeper.

Suntoo’s strong running down the left continued to cause the Puma’s defence problems and Perrywood managed to hang on for three points but full credit to Milford who fought right up to the final whistle.

Tornados: Cusselle, Mitchell, Betchley, Gibson, Scarsbrook, Covey, Delton-Wright, Burberry, Waddington, Boorman, Strong, Reid, Larkin, Suntoo

SIDLOW AUDI DRIVE TORNADOS TO WIN!

Tornados 3 v 1 Frimley Green

Perrywood Tornados, in their new kit sponsored by Horley based, Sidlow Audi started the 2008/09 Surrey Primary League Division 2 season with an impressive 3-1 win at Frimley Green.

Tornados started confidently, determined and organised and immediately took the game to Frimley with Strong and Boorman creating chances up front, debutants Delton-Wright and Burberry supporting well from midfield. Shots peppered towards the Frimley net and the Frimley goalkeeper managed to keep them out.
The Tornados were by far the stronger in the first half with their back four of Mitchell, Betchley, Cusselle and Scarsbrook dominating the Frimley forwards.

After half time, Perrywood continued exactly where they had left off with Boorman and Strong creating chances ably supported by Covey and Larkins on the flanks. Their patience eventually paid of with Boorman running through on goal and lobbing the Frimley goalkeeper following a neat pass from Delton-Wright.
Strong added the second after a powerful run down the left before drawing the keeper and slotting it past him into the corner of the net.
With five minutes left Waddington was pushed up front and added a third with a neat lob over the advancing keeper.
Reid, just back following an injury, Gibson, in the Perrywood goal and Suntoo, on his debut, all played their part in an excellent team performance.

Lack of concentration allowed Frimley to score with almost the last kick of the game.

Tornados: Gibson, Mitchell, Cusselle, Betchley, Scarsbrook, Covey, Delton-Wright, Burberry, Waddington, Boorman, Strong, Reid, Larkins, Suntoo
